When a client returns, they are not simply looking for another renovation. They are placing their trust in a designer who already understands how they live, what they value, and how their needs have evolved over time. For us at Designworx Interior Consultant, that is perhaps the highest compliment we can receive.
A Relationship That Spans More Than a Decade
Our relationship with this Bukit Timah family began many years ago when we designed their first home. In 2010, they engaged us again to design their Bungalow. Our collaboration extended beyond their residence. Over the years, we were also entrusted with the interiors of their jewellery boutiques at Suntec City, Wisma Atria and Marina Bay Sands. This year, they returned once more this time with a unique challenge - the attic. Rather than expanding the house, they wanted to rediscover space they already owned.
Reimagining an Awkward Attic
At approximately 1,410 square feet, the attic was generous in size but difficult to use. Sloping ceilings, sharp gable angles and irregular corners meant much of the floor area felt disconnected and under utilised. Instead of seeing these architectural constraints as limitations, we saw opportunities. Our vision was to transform the attic into a private retreat where the couple could live, work, relax and recharge, all within one beautifully connected space. The new master suite would include:
* A spacious walk-in wardrobe with dedicated handbag display
* A luxurious bathroom centred around a freestanding bathtub
* A shared study
* A yoga corner
* A cosy lounge
* A compact pantry for late-night refreshments
Every area was designed to flow naturally into the next without feeling compartmentalised.
Designing Around Architecture
Rather than fighting the existing roof form, we embraced it. We removed unnecessary partitions to create an open layout that allows natural light to travel throughout the attic. Curved plaster ceilings soften the sharp geometry of the roof while introducing a quieter, more calming rhythm to the space. The awkward spaces beneath the eaves were transformed into concealed storage and custom display cabinetry, ensuring every corner serves a purpose. Even the original timber flooring was preserved through careful restoration, maintaining continuity with the rest of the home while giving it a renewed warmth.
A Retreat Designed for Everyday Living
Luxury is rarely about adding more. It is about designing spaces that improve everyday life.
The palette throughout the suite remains calm and understated—warm timber flooring, creamy plaster walls, brushed bronze detailing and carefully integrated acoustic panels. A sculptural Visionnaire Lamia chandelier creates a dramatic moment above the stairwell, while concealed lighting gently highlights the architectural curves overhead. Acoustic treatments around the staircase reduce sound transfer from the levels below, allowing the bedroom to become a genuinely restful sanctuary. The bathroom was designed as a private spa, complete with a freestanding bathtub positioned to enjoy views through the attic’s charming gable windows.

At Designworx, many of our projects come from returning clients and referrals. We believe this is one of the strongest measures of successful design.
