2022 Design Trend: Colours Of The Year

Updated: Dec 29, 2021

As we say goodbye to 2021 and welcome the new year, we turn our minds to colours. Whether to conceptualise a cuisine-inspired home or a glamourous multi-generational home, colours serve more than a decorative element. They signify a feeling, set a mood

and portray a personality in our surroundings.

That is why we’re excited to see the colours unveiled by Pantone and Dulux.

PANTONE'S VERY PERI

Pantone has announced Very Peri as its Colour of the Year 2022. Very Peri is a punchy colour that exudes creativity and cheerfulness. This newly introduced colour is part of Pantone’s blue colour family while also displaying a violet red undertone. As the name suggests, Very Peri is an intense shade of periwinkle. While rich, Very Peri exudes a comforting feel that we love.

DULUX’S BRIGHT SKIES TM

We are also thrilled to see the Dulux Colour of the Year 2022. Bright SkiesTM is a fresh, airy colour that breathes a calming effect into spaces. In selecting this hue, the colour experts at Dulux looked towards open skies and fresh air. This optimistic hue is versatile in many ways. It can be used to create varying personalities in different spaces.

OUR DESIGN TIPS

As interior designers, we adore introducing lively colours into spaces while ensuring a balance of elegance and vibrancy. Very Peri and Bright SkiesTM can be teamed up beautifully with nature-inspired hues to revitalise your interiors. Consider small home accessories if you would like to introduce these colours as accents. For a bold change, create a feature wall or deck out your window treatments with either one of these colours.

You can also match Very Peri with muted shades of green and grey, introducing this vibrant hue as an accent through decorative furnishings such as cushions and rugs or reupholstering your armchair in the hue to transform it into a statement piece. Or how about jazzing your space up with lighting effects?

Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2022, too, pairs wonderfully with greys and greens, and works well with shades of brown. For a youthful interior design, match light blue shades with white or pastel grey, green, pink and terracotta.

Blue hues like Bright SkiesTM are perfect for softening darker palettes comprising black, brown and grey, which you can do so easily with small furniture and other decorative items.

Colours convey much more information than we might think. In terms of colour psychology, these colours’ connotations are positive, influencing emotions as we all look forward to a post-pandemic world. What are your thoughts on these colours?

We are feeling energised about a fresh new year too. We would also like to express our thanks to our clients in Singapore for your trust and support. Our team at Designworx wishes you all the best for 2022!
